LITTER and the journey to creating and releasing a jazz album in 2022.

The idea and passion project of Matt Downey (Death Mattel, Cousin Betty) formed via contributions from home studios as distant as Philadelphia, Japan and all over Australia. LITTER’s album features ten original works in two different treatments, punk and jazz, making it a two-headed beast.

Collated and produced by Jason Whalley at the Pet Food Factory, the project – largely built on file-sharing, was one of few to find a serendipitous relationship with a world in pandemic lockdown. Skilful arrangements and reimagined genius by Andrew Scott and played by The Pocket Trio, the flip side of this album, a sonically diametrical departure from its punk side.

“I had to know for myself if the content would work across my two loves… since both genres started as feared ugly ducklings, it stood to reason that it might just work. I think Nina Simone had as much venom and verve as any punk artist, in many respects she has been the greatest influence for this project”
